My Soapbox

My biggest pet peeve is bad grammar. Not that I always have perfect grammar, but some specific things really bother me. The one I've been noticing everywhere lately: misuse of the nice apostrophe. "It's" = "It is," not the possessive form of "it." Gratuitous apostrophes are worse, as in "Thank's" or "Happy Holiday's." It makes me want to tear what's left of my hair straight out! (beating the girls to the punch - they are expert hair grabbers)

As something of a professional grammarian, my grammar pet peeve is best illustrated by this:

Ugg. In the preceding comment, the phrase "[a]s something of a professional grammarian" appears to be modifying "my grammar." Of course, my grammar is not actually any such thing. Bad writing. How embarrassing. I blame the wine tasting I attended earlier in the evening.

Andrew and I laughed at your comments for a good long while. We're nerds.
