Cereal Time - Getting Ready

Date: January 13th. We had been waiting 6 months for this momentous occasion, and I have to say, I was kind of sad. We've been excited about every new milestone that shows they're growing up and usually laugh when people lament about the time going by so fast, since we're ready for them to be big and do things - probably mostly because it will be easier for us. Starting solids means they need me less, though, which is why it makes me sad. Andrew and my mom tried to tell me that they still need me to feed them the cereal or whatever - we've tried a bunch of different fruits and veggies now, but they don't need me in particular, just someone. So, I haven't been too sad that we've skipped cereal the past few days since them being sick has made eating really frustrating for everyone involved. Haha.
Good spoon choices, girls. :)

Cereal Time - Anna Starts

She still doesn't understand that grabbing is not the way to actually get it in her mouth...I'm sure she'll like it when she gets the pincer grasp and can feed herself. Anna is our Little Miss Independent. This makes it hard for us to get her to eat, since she likes looking around and grabbing other things or trying to feed herself, which means she doesn't get anything in her mouth, but lots everywhere else.

Cereal Time - Kara's turn

Got to love Anna reaching and looking/trying to be involved in the feeding process...feeding both of them is an adventure. Much easier to just nurse them at the same time (and I NEVER thought I'd say that!). Kara has proven herself to be the more docile one as of late, and she is a really good eater - though I guess she always loved nursing more too. We've noticed that she likes taking bites better than actually swallowing, though, so we have to watch out for that trick. I've definitely found her spitting out food 5-10 minutes later. :)

Cereal Time - Done!

I love their preppy prepster monogrammed bibs we got as a gift. And that they liked it so much they had to lick every last drop off my finger. That started a bad tradition for Anna, though. She eats much better off my finger than she does a spoon.

Good Old Days

Pre-crawling days. It is so funny how they would try and try to move and then get mad when they actually started to. Kara still does that some, probably because I always rush to her rescue and pick her up when she fusses and she's a spoiled mama's girl.

Good Old Days...you know, 3 weeks ago

Still haven't downloaded pictures from the camera. These are among their first times to independently pull themselves up - hence the happy faces and then the faltering. :) Amazing how fast the little girls change!

Sick

All the Pierce girls are sick...me included, joining what seems like every baby I know. Anna has been most of the week, and is not better yet. I thought Kara was okay, but she woke up with a fever today. Then I caught it by the middle of the day. :( They're taking it pretty well, but it's still really sad, since it's the first time they've been sick. Hoping to see these smiling faces again soon!

Ch-ch-ch-changes (updated!)

Since my last week's post...we have crawling, cruising (both for both), and a tooth (Anna)! We also had their baby dedication at church. I have pictures of everything to be downloaded, but am posting from my work computer tonight. The audio of the dedication service is available at:
http://www.fellowshipbibleannarbor.org/audiosermons.shtml
It was good to hear clear exposition on the topic of dedication vs. baptism, etc.

My new fun activity is having them race. Kara was the cutest tonight...I left the room for a minute to get something and when I came back she was crawling toward the door and crying, presumably looking for me. Very sweet. Object permanence is a nuisance, but also nice in letting me know how needed/missed I am.

PS - neither of them are great at crawling or cruising, which makes it hilarious to watch. :)

How Can I Leave These Girls?

Saying goodbye in bed before Mom headed to work on Thursday. Looking forward to staying home with them full-time when we move!

Aunt Sarah!

Sarah visited Thursday (with her friend Lindsay) and Friday since she'd been in London all semester. It made me laugh because she kept such close tabs on the blog that she remembered almost everything I posted. And apparently Jenn someone has one of Anna's pictures as her Facebook picture, which is also really funny. I think she and Lindsay were a little disappointed, though, since the bees look bigger in pictures than in person. They were plenty squeezy for her at least. Sorry, Sarah, I know you don't like this picture, it was the only good one we got. This shows both of their new camera faces - Kara so excited and scrunched up her eyes are almost closed, Anna with the widest open mouth ever.

6 month update

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET PRETTIES!

Behind in marking all of their milestones on here - we've been enjoying them at home. The bees turned 6 months today. TONS of pictures on the camera...coming!

1. Today we tried cereal. They did awesome and ate it all, didn't really spit any out. As Andrew said, they were probably developmentally ready to eat it at 4 months, so we shouldn't be impressed.

2. They are trying *really* hard to crawl. Have been for a while, haven't made it yet. They both can get to what they want - scooting some, Anna has figured out rolling to get where she wants.

3. They love standing. They've been pulling up to stand for a little over a week now, and do it every chance they get. Anna even started moving along the couch a little. Dangerous!

4. Also for a little over a week - Babababa..., which they started while I was at work one day, and, more importantly, Mamamama...! They were kind enough to save that for later in the day when I was home. Now sometimes Lalalala, no Papapa or Dadada yet-working on it.

Just in time...

After my soapbox post last night, I checked my favorite blog today and saw this:
http://gofugyourself.typepad.com/go_fug_yourself/2008/01/one-fug-hill-th.html

These bloggers are no grammarians like our friend Luke's grammar pet peeve :) , but the apostrophe misuse must really be running rampant if it needs to be discussed on blogs lambasting celebrity fashion. (And no, I am not embarrassed to admit that it's my favorite blog, though I know Andrew is embarrassed for me).

Sometimes, like in the last 2 pictures, we have to put them in things like these headbands and hats that look ridiculous to us, just so we can laugh and take pictures.

My Soapbox

My biggest pet peeve is bad grammar. Not that I always have perfect grammar, but some specific things really bother me. The one I've been noticing everywhere lately: misuse of the nice apostrophe. "It's" = "It is," not the possessive form of "it." Gratuitous apostrophes are worse, as in "Thank's" or "Happy Holiday's." It makes me want to tear what's left of my hair straight out! (beating the girls to the punch - they are expert hair grabbers)

Girls Together - Christmas

1. the best presents, 2. checking out Pop's recliner, 3. squeezies on the couch (I took their dresses off so they wouldn't get them dirty between church and a party, then once we got to the party I proceeded to get food on each of them - oops!), 4. nice faces, 5. chewing on the cord from a phone toy from the late 70s.

Two Too Smiley Girls

They are SO excited most of the time. The third is a typical play picture...they aren't really ALWAYS smiling-their mouths are mostly filled with toys instead.
