Pronounced nootz, with the "oo" pronounced like the "oo" in cook. Otherwise known as egg tapping, apparently, as my googling has found. Basically you knock eggs together and see whose breaks - winning=not breaking. My family does this every year and it's a pretty big deal who wins tops and who wins bottoms, we try to strategize which egg is best, etc. We're maybe a little too competitive. Winners of each side win a whole dollar. My dad just told us this year that when he was a kid winners of each side won a dollar...my dad is not young. $1 in 1960 (ish) is relatively worth how much today? (Mike, do you know, econ whiz?) Regardless, that was a much more awesome prize than we get now. My family is more about bragging rights than the $, though.
Anna had the best egg. She won tops and got 2nd in bottoms! (Which my mom won, way to go). Whoa. I haven't won for years and years and years. Great job Nan! (And why didn't I pick that egg for myself?)Sunday, March 30, 2008
Nutzing Eggs
Getting ready...the contest between A and K...A is the winner! So happy. Kara's so sad. Then the winnings...we were playing with that trophy all day, more pics of it to follow.

One dollar in 1960 is equal to $6.91 in 2007. Still not that much, although it might have gotten Anna a few extra diapers or maybe another finger puppet.
Wow, that could get a finger puppet and like 20 diapers. Or me less than 2 gallons of gas, or about to work. (They aren't old enough to know that we take their $, and we haven't set up accounts for them yet).
